12-Week Accelerated Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic Diploma Program (Optional A.A.S. degree) at McCook Community College, McCook Nebraska for $7,642.  (Includes: Tuition and Fees, Textbooks, Housing and Meals).

Accelerated EMT Paramedic Program Overview: The Accelerated 12-week EMT-Paramedic Program at McCook Community College is designed to provide training and education to develop competent EMT-Paramedics. The Paramedic provides care to emergency patients in and out of the hospital setting. The emerging roles and responsibilities of the EMT-Paramedic also include public education, health promotion, and participation in injury and illness prevention programs as well as initial treatment provider. (Detailed sequence and course description lists are located on right side)

All training follows the Department of Transportation (DOT) curriculum and instructional guidelines.

The course of study is designed to enhance all facets of the EMT-Paramedic's scope of practice. Completion of the entire sequence of classes would lead to an Applied Science degree in Emergency Medical Services. Completion of the specialized advance emergency medical courses would lead to a vocational diploma.

The accelerated version of the paramedic training consolidates the didactic training in which the students attend class 40 contact hours per week for 12 weeks. The clinical and field requirements are identical to the traditional program demanding 230 clinical and 200 field hours.

Upon completion of the in-class work, students are required to complete the training in a clinical/field environment.

Clinical/Field Training: Clinical/field training placement is the decision of the students. Students are encouraged to use our clinical training facilities and field service affiliations to complete their training. If a student opts to return home to complete their clinical/field training the college will work diligently with their chosen affiliations to attain training contracts, but there are no guarantees these agreements can be secured.

Upon successful completion of training the student is eligible to sit for the National Registry Paramedic Exam.

Students can complete the clinical/field and National Registry testing at their own pace, but the quicker the student successfully completes their clinical/field training and successfully passes the National Registry exam, the quicker the student can start earning an income.

Diploma and Degrees: When all facets of the program are finished the student will have completed enough credits to be awarded a Diploma from Mid-Plains Community College-an institution of higher learning and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. However, an Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Services degree is also available upon successfully completing the additional A.A.S. requirements. (Contact us for further information) Additional Certifications in ACLS and PALS are included in training.

There are several prerequisites:

  1. The student must be able to prove through valid credentials that they have completed an EMT-Basic program prior to admission.
  2. The student must be 18 years of age prior to National Registry testing.
  3. Once admitted into the MCC Accelerated EMT-Paramedic program, a criminal background check will be conducted by a certified agency.
