THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN(EMT)
Through both assessment and medical care, EMT -Paramedics aim to prevent and reduce mortality and morbidity due to illness and injury. This care is primarily provided to emergency patients in an out-of-hospital setting.
EMT -Paramedics possess the knowledge, skill and attitude consistent with the expectations of the public and the profession. EMT -Paramedics recognize that they are an essential component of the continuum of care and serve as linkages among health resources.
EMT -Paramedics recognize the importance of research and actively participate in the design, development, evaluation, and publication of research. EMT -Paramedics seek to take part in life-long professional development, peer evaluation, and assume an active role in professional and community organizations.
Mid-Plains Community College Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic Program. The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) -Paramedic Program at Mid-Plains Community College is designed to provide training and education to develop competent EMT -Paramedics.
The EMT-Paramedic Program course of study taught at McCook Community College in McCook and North Platte Community College in North Platte is designed to enhance all facets of the EMT -Paramedic's scope of practice.
The college offers two distinct and separate tracts of instruction. A concentrated 12-week Accelerated EMT-Paramedic program is offered at McCook Community College three times per year. Click here for more information about the Accelerated EMT-Paramedic Program. The traditional training is focused on the part-time non-traditional student. The didactic training is presented in two evening-four hour class sessions per week over an 18-month period. Students are then given up to 12 months to complete thei clinical and field training at participating facilities and Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Once all training is completed, the student is permitted to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians which administers the certifying exam of Emergency Medical Technicians.
"Completion of the entire sequence of classes will lead to an Associate of Applied Science degree in Emergency Medical Services.
"Completion of the specialized advance emergency medical courses will lead to a diploma.
